Peppermint Swirl Crochet Coasters Pattern

These peppermint crochet coasters bring a cheerful candy-inspired swirl to your Christmas table. Made with red and white cotton yarn, they are practical holiday decorations that also make thoughtful handmade gifts.

This pattern uses the same basic construction as my Summer Spiral Crochet Coasters, but a slightly heavier yarn and festive red-and-white colors give it a peppermint candy look.

Pattern Notes

The white coaster base is worked in a continuous spiral.
Do not join at the end of each round.
Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round and move it up as you work.
The red peppermint swirl is added afterward with surface slip stitches.
Cotton yarn is recommended because it is absorbent and works well for coasters.
Your finished measurements may vary depending on your yarn, hook, and tension.

Peppermint Crochet Coaster Instructions

With white yarn, make a magic ring.

As an alternative to the magic ring, ch 4 and join with a sl st in the farthest ch from the hook to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a st here or throughout), work 6 sc in the ring — 6 sts.

Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around — 12 sts.

Round 3: *Work 2 sc in the next st, work 1 sc in the next st; rep from * around — 18 sts.

Round 4: *Work 2 sc in the next st, work 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts; rep from * around — 24 sts.

Round 5: *Work 2 sc in the next st, work 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts; rep from * around — 30 sts.

Round 6: *Work 2 sc in the next st, work 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts; rep from * around — 36 sts.

Round 7: *Work 2 sc in the next st, work 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts; rep from * around — 42 sts.

Sl st in each of the next 2 sts. Fasten off and weave in the white yarn ends.

Adding the Peppermint Swirl

The red spiral is added to the surface of the finished white coaster.

Keep the working red yarn behind the coaster. Insert the hook from front to back through the top of the first stitch from Round 1 and pull up a loop of red yarn.

Insert the hook from front to back through the next stitch, pick up the working yarn, and pull it through the stitch and the loop already on the hook. This completes one surface slip stitch.

Continue working one surface slip stitch in each stitch, following the continuous spiral of the coaster from the center toward the outside edge.
