Create a unique pair of handmade earrings with this free crochet wire earrings pattern! These delicate teardrop earrings are made by crocheting fine jewelry wire into a simple strip, then rolling and shaping it into an elegant teardrop design.
Crocheting with wire gives the earrings a beautiful textured look while allowing them to hold their shape. With just a few basic crochet stitches and simple jewelry-making supplies, you can create a lightweight-looking accessory that’s perfect for everyday wear, special occasions, or handmade gifts.
These crochet teardrop earrings are also a fun way to experiment with crochet beyond traditional yarn projects!
About These Crochet Wire Earrings
This design actually came about by accident! I was experimenting with Tunisian crochet using wire, but I wasn’t happy with the results. After fastening off, I started playing around with the crocheted piece, and when I rolled it up, I loved the texture and shape it created.
That little experiment inspired these teardrop earrings, made using basic single crochet stitches instead.
Each earring begins as a small rectangle of crocheted wire. The piece is then rolled into a narrow strip, gently shaped into a teardrop, and attached to an ear wire with a crimp bead.
The pattern is simple, but working with wire feels a little different from working with yarn, so take your time when forming the stitches and shaping your earrings.

Pattern Instructions
Make 2.
Ch 16.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn — 15 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), work 1 sc in each st across, turn — 15 sts.
Row 3: Repeat Row 2 — 15 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a wire tail approximately 6 in. (15 cm) long.
Shaping the Teardrop Earrings
- Gently roll the crocheted wire rectangle lengthwise into a long, narrow strip.
- Bend the rolled strip into a teardrop shape, bringing the two ends together at the top.
- Use the remaining wire tail to secure the ends together, maintaining the teardrop shape.
Attaching the Ear Wires
- Thread a crimp bead onto the remaining wire tail.
- Pass the wire tail through the loop of an ear wire.
- Thread the wire tail back through the crimp bead.
- Use jewelry crimping pliers to compress the bead securely.
- Trim the excess wire close to the bead or carefully tuck the end into the crocheted wire structure.
Repeat for the second earring.
Check that both earrings are securely attached, with no sharp wire ends exposed, before wearing.

Should I buy dead soft or half hard wire? I love the earrings and think this would be a good project for me to try crochet wire.
You should work with dead soft wire because it will work harden as you crochet with it. If you start out with half hard wire, it can work harden even further and become too hard and brittle which can lead to breakage before your project is completed. Good luck! 🙂
I’d forgotten I was here a few years ago until I noticed my comment. I’d like to mention that I did make a pair using copper but I don’t know how much wire I used. I recently bought a set of Bead Smith draw plates and they made a HUGE difference in the appearance. It looked messy to begin with but after pulling it through the draw plate, the size was condensed and uniform. I added 2 beads and they are very beautiful now but, unfortunately, I need to make another pair in copper so I can pay attention to how much fine silver to buy because I really want to make a necklace to hang my enhancer on. I highly recommend using a draw plate. You will not be disappointed!
Adorable. I have been wanting to try wire crochet. I also want to try to add some small sparkly beads to the wire. Thanks for the great tutorial.
So happy you like it, Karen!

You too, Ana!
I am making some this weekend!
I was looking for a simple pattern and size suggestion to try my hand at wire crochet. And your earrings are my style; I like the sparkle and seeming random curl and interweave of the wire. People will wonder how I tied all those intricate knots, and with wire.
So glad you want to give them a try! I absolutely love them and wear them so much. Enjoy!
