Crochet Anchor Pattern

There is a sweet story behind this crochet anchor pattern. My mother loves the sea! She loves sailing, sand, shells, and everything that goes along with the ocean. So when I saw a pendant in a shop that read, “You Are My Anchor,” I immediately thought of her—not only because of the ocean theme, but because that is what she is to me … my anchor.

So I got to work designing this little crochet anchor to embellish her Mother’s Day card and maybe even a few other crochet surprises.

Crochet Anchor Pattern

Materials Needed

Here’s what you will need to crochet an anchor:

• worsted-weight yarn, such as Lion Brand Yarn Vanna’s Choice
• H / 5.0 mm crochet hook
• tapestry needle and scissors

Finished Size: Approximately 4 in. (10 cm) tall × 3.4 in. (8.5 cm) wide.

Crochet Abbreviations

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

Sl st – slip stitch

How to Crochet an Anchor

Step 1: Make a magic ring (as an alternative to the magic ring, you can also chain 4 and join in the furthest ch from the hook to form a ring).

Step 2: Work 6 sc in the ring.

Step 3: Ch 5, work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each of the next 2 ch.

Step 4: Ch 13, work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each of the next 6 ch.

Step 5: Ch 3, 1 sc in the 3rd ch from the hook [picot].

Step 6: Ch 7, work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each of the next 6 ch.

Step 7: Work 1 sc in each of the 6 unworked chains from Step 4.

Step 8: Ch 4, work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each of the next 2 ch.

Step 9: Work 1 sc in the unworked ch from Step 3.

Step 10: Sl st in 1st st to join. Fasten off, leaving a long tail to weave in.

How to Use Your Crochet Anchor

You can use this crochet anchor applique to embellish just about anything. Add it to a card, gift package, tote bag, clothing, or another crochet project. It would also make a sweet little nautical ornament or embellishment for a summer project.

As you can see, I chose to use mine on a Mother’s Day card for my mom. To attach the anchor to the card, I used some double-sided tape. That way, if my mom wanted to peel it off and use it as an ornament or for something else, she could.

I decorated the bottom of the card with some sparkly puff-painted waves. And, of course, I added the saying that inspired it all … “You are my anchor.”
