This flower scrubby has been one of my favorite practical crochet projects, and I was thrilled when Red Heart loved the design enough to ask me to create a version for their website as the Flower Power Scrubby! Made with cotton and Red Heart Scrubby yarn, it has plenty of texture for washing dishes and cleaning around the kitchen.
I originally designed this Flower Scrubby crochet pattern as a way to use up the leftover yarn from my Double Sided Scrubby Dishcloths. It’s a great scrapbuster for those small amounts of cotton and scrubby yarn left in your stash, and the pattern is quick and easy to make.
My favorite thing about this flower scrubby is that it gives you two textures in one. Use the soft cotton petals for gentle, nonabrasive washing and the textured scrubby center when you need a little extra cleaning power.

Note: Rounds 1 through 5 are worked in a spiral; do not join at the end of each round. Use a stitch marker to keep track of the beginning of each round, and move it up as you work.
With CA, make a magic ring (as an alternative to the magic ring, you can ch 4 and join with a slip stitch in the furthest chain from the hook to form a ring).
Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as st here and throughout), work 6 sc in ring — 6 sts.
Round 2: Work 2 sc in the back loop only of each st around — 12 sts.
Round 3: *Work 2 sc in the back loop only of the next st, 1 sc in the back loop only of the next st, rep from * around — 18 sts.
Round 4: *Work 2 sc in the back loop only of the next st, 1 sc in the back loop only of the next 2 sts, rep from * around — 24 sts.
Round 5: *Work 2 sc in the back loop only of the next st, 1 sc in the back loop only of the next 3 sts, rep from * around, fasten off CA — 30 sts.
Round 6: Join CB in the back loop of any stitch from Round 5. Ch 1 (does not count as st), *work 2 dc in the back loop of each of the next 3 sts, ch 2, sl st in the back loops of the next 2 sts, ch 2, rep from * around, join in first st — 36 dc, 12 ch-2.
Round 7: Ch 1 (does not count as st), working through both loops of each st again, *work 1 hdc in next st, work 1 dc in next st, work 2 dc in each of the next 2 sts, work 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in the tops of each of the next 2 ch-2s, rep from * around, join and fasten off — 80 sts.
Round 8: Join CC in the next stitch, ch 1 (does not count as st), *work 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts, ch 1, sl st between next 2 sc, ch 1, rep from * around, join in first st and fasten off — 72 sts.
Scrubby Center: Join scrubby yarn in first unworked loop from Round 1. Work 1 sc in each unworked loop around through Round 5.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Red Heart Flower Power Scrubby
I was thrilled when Red Heart asked me to create a version of my Flower Scrubby for their website! For the Flower Power Scrubby, I changed the construction slightly so that the center itself is crocheted with scrubby yarn. In my original pattern above, the center is crocheted in cotton, and the scrubby yarn is worked into the unworked loops afterward.

The Red Heart version uses slightly different yarns from my original shown above:
- Red Heart Scrubby in 982 Zesty — 1 ball
- Lily Sugar’n Cream Ombre — 1 ball

I made this! (Not without a struggle…)
I’m going to make some more for my granddaughter.
I love this pattern! It’s easy and makes up quickly. They are perfect size for face scrubs. Im sending a few to my sister for her birthday 😄
My guess is so that you can have plain cotton on one side, and scratchy, scrubby yarn on the other.
When you start out, why can’t you crochet the thread and the scrubby yarn at the same time, instead of going back and doing it? Just wondering.
I’m just making these. I have tried several ways with different sizes of hooks. I first used an H hook for the cotton and H hook for the scrubby. That worked out ok but smaller than 7 inch. 2nd, I used a J hook for the cotton and H hook for the scrubby, it was ok but didn’t lay flat. 3rd, I used a J hook for both the cotton and scrubby. It’s perfect. Then I tried crocheting the cotton yarn and scrubby together with a J hook, great idea but it’s difficult to see the stitches.
What a great idea! I have been looking at many different dishcloth scrubby patterns, and this is wonderful and quick way to use the leftover yarn. Thanks so much!
Cute! I didn’t know about this type of yarn, I’ll have to keep an eye out for it, I thought it was the “fun fur” at first lol.
So glad you like it!
This is exactly what I was looking for to give to some of my friends as gifts. Thank you very much.
