Flower Scrubby Dishcloth Crochet Pattern

After I made a set of Double Sided Scrubby Dishcloths (you can find the free pattern for those here) I decided to play around with my leftover yarn and work up something fun … this Flower Scrubby did the trick! Not only are they pretty but they also feature gentle petals for nonabrasive cleaning and a scrubby center for tougher jobs.

Here’s what you will need:

  • worsted weight cotton yarn in three colors (scrap amounts, less than 100 yds each)
  • worsted weight scrubby yarn (less than 100 yds; shown here with Red Heat Scrubby in Zesty <-affiliate link)
  • H hook
  • yarn needle, scissors, and stitch marker (optional)

Add this pattern to your Ravelry library.

Size: approx. 7 in. × 7 in.

Note: Rounds 1 through 5 are worked in a spiral; do not join at the end of each round. Use a stitch marker to keep track of the beginning of each round, and move it up as you work.

With CA, make a magic ring (as an alternative to the magic ring, you can ch 4 and join with a slip stitch in furthest chain from hook to form a ring).

Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as st here and throughout), work 6 sc in ring — 6 sts.

Round 2: Work 2 sc in the back loop only of each st around — 12 sts.

Round 3: *Work 2 sc in the back loop only of the next st , 1 sc in the back loop only of the next st, rep from * around — 18 sts.

Round 4: *Work 2 sc in the back loop only of the next st , 1 sc in the back loop only of the next 2 sts, rep from * around — 24 sts.

Round 5: *Work 2 sc in the back loop only of the next st , 1 sc in the back loop only of the next 3 sts, rep from * around, fasten off CA — 30 sts.

Round 6: Join CB in the back loop of any stitch from Round 5. Ch 1 (does not count as st), *work 2 dc in the back loop of each of the next 3 sts, ch 2, Sl st in the back loops of the next 2 sts, ch 2, rep from * around, join in first st  — 36 dc, 12 ch-2.

Round 7: Ch 1 (does not count as st), working through both loops of each st again, *work 1 hdc in next st, work 1 dc in next st, work 2 dc in each of the next 2 sts, work 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in the tops of each of the next two ch-2s, rep from * around, join and fasten off — 80 sts.

Round 8: Join CC in the next stitch, ch 1 (does not count as st), *work 1 sc each of the next 8 sts, ch 1, Sl st between next 2 sc, ch 1, rep from * around, join in first st and fasten off — 72 sts.

Scrubby Center: Join scrubby yarn in first unworked loop from Round 1, work 1 sc in each unworked loop around through Row 5.

Cute! I didn’t know about this type of yarn, I’ll have to keep an eye out for it, I thought it was the “fun fur” at first lol.

What a great idea! I have been looking at many different dishcloth scrubby patterns, and this is wonderful and quick way to use the leftover yarn. Thanks so much!

When you start out, why can’t you crochet the thread and the scrubby yarn at the same time, instead of going back and doing it? Just wondering.
