Santa Crochet Gift Card Holder Pattern

This free Santa crochet gift card holder pattern turns a practical gift card into a festive handmade present. The holder is worked in joined rounds with worsted-weight yarn and features Santa’s red suit, black belt, fluffy white trim, and an embroidered gold buckle.

The finished holder measures approximately 3½ × 2 in. (8.9 × 5 cm) and fits a standard-size gift card. It works up quickly and makes a fun Christmas stocking stuffer, teacher gift, or finishing touch for a holiday present.

This design was inspired by my basic crochet gift card holder patterns. When I saw the adorable Santa version Nicole Gerbe created for her Ravelry gift card holder project, I knew I wanted to share the idea with you. Santa Crochet Gift Card Holder Pattern

Pattern Details

• Skill level: Easy
• Yarn: Worsted-weight yarn with eyelash yarn for the trim
• Hook: 5 mm (US H-8)
• Finished size: Approximately 3½ × 2 in. (8.9 × 5 cm)
• Construction: Worked from the bottom up in joined rounds and closed across the foundation chain
• Gauge: Not essential

Supplies

• Small amount of red worsted-weight yarn
• Small amount of black worsted-weight yarn
• Small amount of white eyelash or shaggy yarn
• 5 mm (US H-8) crochet hook
• Small amount of gold crochet thread
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Crochet Abbreviations

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• sl st = slip stitch
• st(s) = stitch(es)

This pattern is written in U.S. crochet terms.

Pattern Notes

• The beginning ch-1 does not count as a stitch.
• Join each round with a sl st in the first sc.
• The joining sl st does not count as a stitch.
• Do not turn after completing a round.
• The holder is worked from the bottom up and closed across the foundation chain after the body is complete.
• Stitch counts are provided at the end of each round.

Crochet Santa Gift Card Holder Instructions

With red yarn, ch 16. Join with a sl st in the farthest ch from the hook to form a ring, being careful not to twist the chain. Do not turn.

Round 1: Ch 1, work 1 sc in the same ch as the join and in each ch around, join — 16 sts.

Rounds 2 through 4: Ch 1, work 1 sc in the same st as the join and in each st around, join — 16 sts. Drop the red yarn after Round 4, but do not fasten off.

Round 5: Join black yarn, ch 1, work 1 sc in the same st as the join and in each st around, join — 16 sts. Fasten off the black yarn.

Rounds 6 through 11: Resume the red yarn, ch 1, work 1 sc in the same st as the join and in each st around, join — 16 sts. Fasten off the red yarn after Round 11.

Round 12: Join the glittery white eyelash yarn, ch 1, work 1 sc in the same st as the join and in each st around, join — 16 sts.

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Finishing the Gift Card Holder

Turn the holder so the foundation chain is at the top, then flatten the piece.

Working through a corresponding unused loop from each side of the foundation chain, join the red yarn in the first pair of loops and ch 1. Sl st through each pair of loops across to close the bottom.

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Thread a tapestry needle with gold crochet thread. Embroider a small square in the center of the black round to create Santa’s belt buckle. Secure the thread and weave in the ends.

Insert a standard-size gift card, and your Santa gift card holder is ready for giving!
