Granny Square Purse Crochet Pattern

This adorable granny square bag is so easy to make! My daughter absolutely loves carrying all her treasures around in it. And the pattern is super simple too … all it takes is two granny squares and some side pieces. Add a strap and done!

Granny Square Purse Crochet Pattern

Here is what you will need: 

• 4 colors worsted weight yarn (yarn scraps work great for this!)
• US H-8 / 5 mm crochet hook
• scissors and tapestry needle for finishing

Granny Squares

Make 2 granny squares from this granny square pattern here.

Side Piece

Ch 39.

Row 1: Work 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn – 37.

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as st), work 1 hdc in each st across – 37.

Fasten off.

With wrong sides facing, line up the corner of one of your granny squares with a corner edge of the side piece. Join by single crocheting pieces together, working through the back loops of the granny square only; the side piece should only fit along 3 sides of the granny square. Fasten off. Repeat with 2nd square, but do not fasten off. Edge around top of squares and sides by chaining 1 and single crocheting around.

Strap

Chain to desired length.

Row 1: Work 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn.

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as st), work 1 hdc in each st across.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Using a tapestry needle, sew strap to the inside of your bag.

You can choose to line your bag with fabric or leave it as is. My daughter didn’t want it lined because she didn’t want to see the fabric through the squares. So, she came up with a neat trick … to keep things from poking through the bag, she puts her stuff in a ziploc bag first. Pretty clever, huh?
