This free crochet cross pattern creates a beautiful lacy cross using cotton crochet thread and a small steel hook. I love how delicate and pretty it came out!
The finished cross is perfect for Easter and other religious occasions, and there are several ways you can use it. Add a loop at the top to hang it as an ornament or decoration, add a tassel to make a crochet cross bookmark, or embellish it with a few beads for a little color.
The pattern uses puff stitches, picots, and long single crochet stitches to create the lacy design. I would rate it intermediate to advanced—or a fun challenge for a very ambitious beginner.

Skill level: Intermediate to advanced
Yarn: Size 10 crochet thread
Hook: 2 mm (US A) steel crochet hook
Finished size: Approximately 4¾ × 3¾ in. (12 × 9.5 cm)
Special stitches: Puff stitch, long single crochet, picot
Optional embellishments: Seed beads, hanging loop, or tassel

- sewing needle and scissors for finishing
- 6/0 seed beads (optional)
Crochet Abbreviations
ch = chain
Lsc = long single crochet
p = picot
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
sk = skip
sl st = slip stitch
sp = space
st(s) = stitch(es)
Special Stitches
Puff stitch: Yarn over, draw up a loop in the designated stitch, repeat twice more, then yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook.
Long single crochet (Lsc): Draw a loop through the designated stitch to the height of the row being worked, complete as a single crochet (the Lsc takes the place of the next stitch in the current row).
Picot (p): Chain 3, work 1 single crochet in the third chain from the hook.

Ch 9, join in the furthest chain from the hook to form a ring.
Foundation Round: Ch 2, *work 1 puff st into ring, ch 1, rep from * 11 more times, join in top of beginning ch — 12 puff sts.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 1 sc into same ch sp as join, 2 sc in next ch sp, *ch 12, sl st in 6th ch from hook and each of the next 6 ch, work 2 sc in each of the next 3 ch sp of Foundation Round, rep from * twice more, ch 20, sl st in 6th ch from hook and each of the next 14 ch, work 2 sc in next ch sp of Foundation Round, 1 sc in next ch sp, join in 1st sc of round — 4 points of the cross and 24 scs.

Finishing and Blocking Your Crochet Cross
For best results, I recommend blocking these crosses. If desired, you can also brush the finished cross with either a homemade or store-bought stiffener. For stiffening instructions, see my Star of Bethlehem pattern.

Since my synagogue has deep connections sharing space in a church, I thought it would be nice to crochet lacy crosses to add into their bibles the church leaves in the pews.
I found your site and thought ‘how nice this cross would be for the church in which my synagogue holds services and shares space.’
But, have changed my mind — the showing of anti-Semitism in the bible picture continues to spread hatred.
I’ll work on something else for the church.

It’s not hating. It’s just some of the other religions don’t pray to anyone or anything else but God. Jesus was looked upon as a teacher. They don’t look at him as God or Gods son. Muslims call him a Prophet. One who teaches from the words of God. God has many names. Religion should not teach hate. A Muslim can not be a Muslim unless he believes in Jesus. Jesus did not teach hating or to fear other people. Fear only God. Only God can judge.

The cross is what I have been looking for. Want to make some for friends that have lost a spouse. Also for some women that have been displaced by the West, Texas explosion.
