This free knit scarf pattern creates a beautifully soft and luxurious scarf using three strands of lace-weight yarn held together. The simple combination of knit and purl rows creates subtle texture, while using three coordinating colors gives the finished scarf gorgeous depth and color variation.
I originally made this knitted scarf as a Christmas gift for my mom, and I have to admit it was hard to give away! It came out so soft and luxurious that I absolutely fell in love with it … but I made it with my mom in mind and I love her more, so I lovingly wrapped it up and waited excitedly for Christmas when I could give it to her. I’m happy to say she loves it too!
For my scarf, I used Shibui Silk Cloud from my local yarn shop. I chose two hanks in a deep purple called Velvet and one in a more muted shade called Mineral, then knit with all three strands held together. The combination created a beautiful soft halo and a lovely blended color effect.
The finished scarf measures approximately 7¼ in. (18.5 cm) wide × 56 in. (142 cm) long, but you can easily adjust the length to make your scarf shorter or longer.

Hi Kara….lovvvv this pattern…I am worried it would curl inward….does it..????
Hi Judy 🙂 I didn’t have any trouble with curling when working this up. I think the alternating of garter stitch and stockinette stitch sections helps 🙂
