These little yarn tassel ghosts are a super-easy yarn craft and great for crafting with the kids! They work up super quick too and will be ready for your Halloween decorating! Hang them in doorways, from cabinet knobs, or even create a ghost garland! Essentially, they are just tassels with some craft eyes. Easy Yarn Tassel Ghosts
Here’s what you will need:
- white scrap yarn, any weight
- a tassel maker or a piece of cardboard or card stock to make your own
- scissors
- your choice of felt, beads, or self-stick craft eyes
- glue gun
To make your tassel, follow the directions on your tassel maker, or follow the directions in my How to Make Tassels tutorial. If making your own, you will need to cut a piece of cardboard or card stock to the size you want your ghosts to be. I wanted mine to be about 6 in. tall, so I cut my cardboard piece to 6 in. high × 3 in. wide (15.24 cm high x 7.62 cm wide).
Ghost Body
Step 1: Cut a piece of yarn approximately 14 in. long and place it widthwise across your tassel maker.
Step 2: Now wrap the yarn around your tassel maker lengthwise over the yarn you just placed across the maker. Keep wrapping until you reach the desired density for your tassel ghost.
Step 3: Go back and grab the piece of yarn you laid across the width of the maker in Step 1 and pull both ends to the top. Knot it tightly at the top to secure. You can then use the tails to make another knot to form a loop for hanging or tuck them into your ghost to hide them.
Step 4: Use scissors to snip through the yarn across the bottom of your maker to free your tassel.
Ghost Head
Step 5: Cut another length of yarn about 14 in. long and wrap it around the head of the tassel, about ½ in. from the top. Wrap a few more times to secure or until you get the look you want. Tightly knot the yarn and tuck the tails into the center of the yarn tassel ghost body to hide them.
Finishing
Once done, snip off any uneven pieces across the bottom. Cut some felt pieces into small circles for eyes or use self-stick craft eyes or beads to decorate your ghosts. If your felt or craft eyes aren’t self-stick, use a tiny bit of craft glue or a glue gun to stick them in place.
