Although the yarn I used (Knit Picks Dishie) is considered a worsted weight yarn, I find it to run a little thinner than other yarns in the same weight category. I liked the result a G-6 / 4.0 mm crochet hook for this yarn. If using a heavier yarn, adjust hook size.
Finished dishcloth measures approximately 8 in. x 8 in.
Gauge: 14 sc = 4 in.
Front Post Double Crochet (FPdc): Yarn over and insert hook from the front around the back and to the front again, working around the post of the stitch two rows below. Complete as a regular double crochet.

Row 1 (RS): Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across, turn — 27 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as stitch here and throughout, work 1 sc in each st across, turn — 27 sts.
Row 3: Ch 2 (counts as dc here throughout), *FPdc in next stitch two rows below, 1 dc in next st, repeat from * across, turn — 27 sts.
Row 4: Ch 1, work 1 sc in each st across, turn — 27 sts.
Rows 5 through 28: Rep Rows 3 and 4.
Row 29: *FPdc in next stitch two rows below, 1 dc in next st, repeat from * across, do not turn — 27 sts.
The Cabled Columns dishcloth features deeply textured accent columns produced by double crochet post stitches alternating with regular double crochet stitches on right side rows, while working single crochet stitches only on wrong side rows.
EDGING
With right side facing (that is, the side with the defined crochet post stitch columns), rotate piece and *work 25 sc evenly along side edge of rows, work 3 sc in corner, work 1 sc in each st across next side, work 3 sc in corner, repeat around, join — 112 sts.
